Last month the UK government published statistics from the 2021 Cyber Security Breaches Survey showing that 39% of businesses surveyed reported having a cyber security breach in the last 12 months - down from 46% in 2020.
While this sounds like a positive change, the survey also found that the pandemic and home working has made security more complex with 3% fewer businesses than last year reporting up-to-date malware protection, 5% fewer deploying security monitoring tools and a whopping 32% of large businesses reporting laptops in use with unsupported versions of Windows.
Overall, however, cyber security awareness appears to be up among businesses, with 43% (up from 32% last year) taking out some form of cyber insurance.
