The speed of time

Gavin Payne

It often feels like time passes quickly and the pace of innovation is getting faster, but is it?

It was 9 years between Microsoft releasing SSRS and Power BI
In 9 years time, it will be 2026 – what will we be using then?

It was 28 years ago that Microsoft released the first version of SQL Server
In 28 years time, it will be 2045 – what will we be using then?

It was 42 years ago that Microsoft was created
In 42 years time, it will be 2059 – what will it be doing then?

It was 48 years ago that Neil Armstrong first stood on the moon
In 48 years time, it will be 2065 – where will we be standing on then?

It was 74 years ago that the first digital computer was created
In 74 years time, it will be 2091 – what will be invented then?

It was 116 years ago that the first production line cars were made
In 116 years time, it will be 2133 – what will we be making then?

The format of these questions is based on those in Wolfgang Tillmans’ 2017 exhibition at the Tate Modern (link).
