I am often asked to recommend good books to help with training or as references around different areas of the MS BI stack. This blog is a list of books I have found most useful, I will look to add to this as I find new ones.

- Datawarehouse Design – The Data Warehouse Toolkit: Third Edition by Ralph Kimball and Margy Ross – The definitive workbook for all data modelling requirements that should be in every BI professional’s bag or on their Kindle!
- SSAS - Expert Cube Development by Chris Webb, Marco Russo and Alberto Ferrari – Although this book says for SSAS 2008 it is completely relevant to SSAS 2012 and 2014.
- SSIS – SSIS 2012 Design Patterns by Matt Masson, Tim Mitchell, Andy Leonard, Jessica Moss, Michelle Ufford – Great book to take you further with SSAS including a good chapter on PDW SSIS techniques and considerations.
- SharePoint Business Intelligence – MS SharePoint BI Unleashed by various authors – although this is for SHPNT 2010 it is also very valid for 2013 except the SSRS pieces. Also has a good guide for setting up a base SHPNT environment for BI.
- MDX Reference Guide – MDX with SSAS 2012 Cookbook by Sherry Li and Tomislav Piasevoli – Great reference book for all things MDX which is key for any SSAS project.
- Power View – Visualising Data with Microsoft Power View – a great overview of Power View along with some very useful videos.
- SSAS Tabular – Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Analysis Services: The BISM Tabular Model – still one of the only books available on the Tabular model and a very useful book for getting started with Tabular data models.
